If Mr. Bennet had died before any of the daughters married, they would have had about £200 a year (=£5,000 @ 4%), or less than half of what the Dashwoods had (with only three daughters, and one not grow up), and wouldn't have necessarily been able to find a dwelling at a nominal rent, as the Dashwoods did...
