Relative poverty of heroines

We know that Georgianna Darcy had a fortune of 30,000, Mrs. Elton had 10,000(I think), Catherine Morland had 3000 settled on her, Jane Eyre considered herself wealthy with 5000. How poor would the Bennet sisters have been had they not married "well"? Would they have had to work like Jane Fairfax? She, I assume, had nothing settled on her. If Jane and Elizabeth had lived together in the home of their uncle, I assume that if they did not marry and Mr. Bennet died they would live with the Gardners or the Phillips, would they have been comfortable with a 1000 each? Or would they have suffered from relative want?
