To L and T indexWhen a felon's not engaged in his employment , his employment
Or maturing his felonious little plans, little plans,
His capacity for innocent enjoyment ,cent enjoyment,
Is just as much as any other mans!
(two lines i cannot remember....)
When Constbulary duty's to be done, to be done
A Policemans' lot is not a happy one!

(With apologies to Silbert and Gullivan, and I cannot remember which operetta exactly, either)

Actually, the Vulgar Tongue and Advice to Officers are in the bib. Bob, you may like to look at the publishing details and see how they compare to your own. Jason has a different edition of the Advice to Officers than mine.

And speaking of the second book, I once copied out the whole chapter of "Advice to the Adjutant" for a certain gentleman of my acquaintance who had the misfortune to be given that job. In times of strees he would sneak into his office, lock the door, and have a not-so quiet snicker to himself.
