The Woman in Fashion

I found a book in a local library bookstore entitled The Woman in Fashion by Doris Langely Moore, Illustrated with costumes from the author's collection photographed by Felix Fonteyn, 1946. The dresses range from 1800 to 1927 and are modeled by famous women in the British (and foreign) art world, including actresses of the stage and screen, playwrites, designers for film and theater, ballet dancers and prima donas. And a few of their young daughters. The women include Lady Olivier (Vivien Leigh in a fitting mid and late-Victorian-style dress), Mme Arletty, Eve Ashley, Jill Balcon, Sally Ann Howes, Miss Googie Withers, Margot Fonteyn, Tamara Toumanova and Nina Vyroubova, Marjorie Tallchief, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf of the Vienese State Opera, Lady Huntingdon, The Bartlets, and 'the two daughters of Mr. Michael Redgrave and the Miss Lucy Barlett... Vanessa & Lynn Redgrave. Little Vanessa sports beautiful dresses dated 1815 and 1825 and a very cute and pudgy-faced Lynn looks so adorable in a 1863 outfit (with Shirley Temple curls!). One of these days I'll post them (the appropriate one's that is). The book has much to say about women's fashion, of course, and I will highlight some of this information in another post.
