Travelling Around England Via Coach or Whatever

What would be the most widely used form of travel around England when on holiday or getting from town to town? I noticed in P&P2, when the Gardiners and Eliza were visiting Pemberley, they travelled in a vehicle with a convertible top cover. Would that vehicle be the same one used to travel between towns- or was it just used for short trips within the town district? I noticed that the Wickhams also travelled in a similar vehicle when they came to visit the Bennet family after their marriage. In addition, were these vehicles rented or owned? --Could only a certain economic class afford such travel?
