To L and T indexThe juxtaposition of the cattle horns in the cartoon "signifies" that the wife was unfaitful. He was "cuckolded", and therefore carried the "sign" of the horns. "Cuckolding" was pretty common, and there were even period jokes about it. I'll post one when I get the chance, and if I remember to.
