Thomas Langlois Lefroy--Persuaded not to Marry Jane Austen?
Posted by Carl Goss on August 18, 1998 at 23:03:50:
In December of 1795 Tom Lefroy after making some advances to Jane Austen, turned away from her, being persuaded (apparently) to do so by his family. Persuasion if not officious interference by friends and family memebers in the love lives of other friends and family members often shows up in Jane Austen's novels. Is the reason to be found in her early relationship with Tom Lefroy? Thomas Lefroy later admitted to be in love with Jane Austen and Jane Austen's letters seem to confirm this in a roundabout way. What says everybody?
