Hopefully, this won't be a redundant question. I've checked the archives, and unless I searched incorrectly, no one has posted something on this recently.
What I'm curious about is the scene in S&S2 in which the party is gathering reeds. Why are they doing so? Someone (Mrs. Jennings, I think) comments that "they must have enough to make a Moses basket." Were they gathering the reeds to make baskets or weave chair seats? Would making baskets and weaving chair seats be accomplishments or occupations of young women? It seems rather rough to me--rough on the hands.
Does anyone know about this?
