Ian thinks this form of address is unusual since it's not natural. However people may unconsciously speak in the third person as a way of keeping their distance. Ian also thinks that people who use this form of address have not been taught to speak properly with others. He also thinks it quite rude.
Ian is signing this thread off as he feels quite detached from his usual mode of address. :-)
