Thanks for the lovely pic, Caroline. The dancer seems to be standing in the fourth position of classical ballet. (with her feet, anyway). She does seem to be dressed for a ball, not the stage, but isn't her dress rather short? And would she be doing any kind of dancing with a shawl draped around her? It looks to me like a fashion illustration. Is the caption from the same period or was it added later?
