I think I've obtained a relatively adequate understanding of entailing. One thing I haven't been able to figure out is why Mr. Bennet& Mr. Elliot were required to entail their property away to the nearest male relation, and Lady Catherine DeBourgh wasn't. I assumed that her daughter would be the recipient of her home and fortune. Wouldn't the law state that Mr. Darcy would receive her property? Mr. Dashwood was not allowed to break up his estate as he wished would Lady Catherine be allowed?
