This is an original folding pocket map from 1810 that I picked up several years ago at an antiques mall in Vermont. I scanned in all the sections, blew them up in Photoshop, and printed it out so that it's about 30" x 60"--and hanging on my office wall. I use it to track all my characters' movements in London.

This is a 6 volume set first published in the 1870's. It has hundreds of engravings, too, which are reproduced from original 18th and early 19th century ones. I've seen sets on the internet for 250-400 dollars. They ain't cheap, but what a wealth of information they are. You might get lucky,though, like I did. Friends of mine went to a library book sale on Cape Cod and found this set tucked away in a corner of the basement, plus a copy of Pierce Egan's "Life in London"; also, "Caricature History of the Georges", by Thomas Wright; "Our Village", by Mary Mitford; Memoirs of Lord Broughton; and several other books which I can't think of off hand. And you're going to hate me for this--they gave them to me for my birthday last year. I love friends like that! I repaid the favor by tracking down a very rare mystery book and presenting it to them for Christmas.
For information,I actually like this set better than my copy of Ackermann's "Microcosm of London."

If you know the titles you're looking for, you can find some really great books on the internet. Try Interloc, Bibliofind, Bibliocity, and Advanced Book Exchange. Or, hit those library book sales. Which reminds me, Mark Twain Library sale starts today, so I'm off to see what interesting tomes I can gather.
