Thank you all very much for that.The scene I had in mind was the hero (very strong, very brave) holding closed a door with a bunch of militia on the other side trying to get through - this is to allow the hero's men time to get away.
It seems, from what you've said, that he'd be shot to pieces, as you wouldn't need much accuracy to fire through a door and get someone forcing it shut on the other side. So no matter how strong and heroic he is, he wouldn't do much good (unless he collapses, dies, and his body wedges the door shut - but that would kind of ruin the rest of the plot!)
Pity - it would have made a great scene. I'll have to think of something else.
