To L and T index ] Could a musket or other firearm of the sort available to an ordinary soldier shoot through a door, or would the bullet be stopped by the wood?

] If it depends on the wood and the gun, please could you tell me what would be needed for the bullet *not* to go through the door?

Well, this is the sort of thing that is always going to depend on the thickness of the door. So if you don't want to penetrate the door, just make it a thick one. Several inches of oak would do, I hazard.

There are other possibilities. The weapon might misfire--an all too common occurence back then, though not in the majority of cases. This won't work if the protagonist is counting on a misfire, as the odds are against. But as a reprieve in the action, it's realistic.
