] Thanks for the info Jason. The ornamental cockade does seem to be one that could have diamonds in it. At least it looks that way in the Gillray print. Does Embleton's print, or the description reveal what color the horsehair was that surmounted this metal cockade?
Unfortunately, no. In the print, it does appear that the fan shaped projection above the round part of the cockade is of the same material. It might be quite unrelated, but I've seen american infantry cockade of the same shape, albeit entirely of leather.
