To L and T indexMist,
I know of a house outside of Charleston, SC that, in some ways, would be a perfect place. Problem is, I don't think the historic preservation people would let you hold one there. I haven't visited Charleston in a number of years, and I cannot remember the name of the house (I'm not much help, am I?) but it is outside of town and it has never been altered! No electricity, no indoor plumbing, original paint still on the interior walls. It is a true example of preservation as opposed to restoration -- they literally only do what it necessary to preserve it, not enhance it at all. I seem to remember that there is a large room on the 3rd floor that was used for balls back when the house was originally built by the wealthy rice planter/original owner. So, it would be perfect for the period (or pretty close, anyway) and would have the proper ambiance, etc. But, I don't think the Historic Preservation folks who own/operate it now nor the fire marshall would let anyone hold a ball there.

Hmmm, where do we compromise here??? Should we look for a nice hotel room somewhere? Should we try for another historic house somewhere? What is your inclination on this. E-mail me if you wish.

Gayle
