Well, for a start fire regulations wouldn't let you have all those candles - no electric light you know. No heating or cooling for that matter, other than an open fire or maybe a stove. And no plumbing! No showers. No hair dryers. No bras. No elastic!. No deodorant (eeeuw!!). No electric iron. No washandwear fabrics. No nylon pantihose. No cars to get there. No refrigerated drinks. No refrigerated food! No makeup. Head lice. No orthodontics....not everyone had head lice all the time. There were ways of treating hair and bedding, &c. Also, they did wear make-up, especially rouge (even men sometimes), but it was expected to be subtle. There were no orthodontics, but if you had the money Wedgwood made some nice porcelain teeth. And pantihose I can do without! ;-)
