To L and T indexArmy officers would have been among those "attending" Almack's, where they rubbed elbows with Lords, etc. and lost -- or won -- at the gaming tables.

After checking my sources, I decided to see if there was any other information on Almack's, and found a good description on Kristine Hughes's
Society of London Ladies site. I think she has pretty much the same sources that I do, and you'll find some interesting details there.

There are some descriptions by Prince Puckler-Muskau (Pickle-Mustard, according to T. Hook's Mrs. Ramsbottom).
