] Yeah, well, the U.S. income tax was a "temporary measure" while WWI was on.



Actually, the first U.S. income tax was levied during the Civil War, but it really was temporary. When the income tax was revived early in this century, it was ruled unconstitutional, as nowhere in the constitution did it say that the federal government could levy this kind of tax. However, the constitution was amended, and that's how the income tax stays with us today!
