To L and T indexThanks again for your description, Tilde. Does that mean the linen than dries on the stick? I'm trying to picture one woman doing this, but maybe she had help. I wonder how long the stick would be. Hmm.... Maybe next time I do my laundry.... NAAAH!!!

] I hadn't heard the story you tell, nice story though. Don't you think that it was impossible to give it away twice, since the hoped-for-wifes initials would be carved on them ? e.g. E.K.H.D = Eleonora Kristina Hans-Datter (the latter being the patronym "Hans daughter")

My boss wanted to know what was going to keep a man from erasing one set of initials and carving another! : ) I guess you should also beware of a man with a mangle with suspicious pits gouged into it!

Our mangles are supposed to be either Danish or Friesian (have no idea on what basis the appraisers determined this) Not all of them have initials.
