In response to The curtained bed is very old...., written by Roger V on July 16, 1998 at 01:37:29
I believe I have read that the curtained bed actually dates back to the Middle Ages, when the Lord and Lady of the Castle often had the only private chamber in the entire castle, and even then it wasn't very private, as servants sometimes slept in the room on the floor or pallets, as has been already been mentioned.
I believe that all the Lord family would sleep together, ie not only his wife but also their children if there was any. And also the dogs would share their masters bed, so as to keep all of them warm at night. ughh!
