To L and T indexSince entails went down the male line, you are right to expect the inheritor of an entail to share the of the person he was inheriting from.

A couple of options to explain why not in P&P:

(a) the original writer of the will had a daughter and a son: the estate was bequeathed on the son and his line, but if that line ran out of male heirs, it would go back to the daughter's line.

(b) one person in either of the lines changed his name.
