To L and T index ] The glamourous, romantic, aristocratic side of things in both depended on appalling oppression of the vast majority of the population.

] They were linked by cotton: in the South the slaves grew it, and in the North of England they turned it into those flowing, lovely dresses. It was not at all clear to the reformers of the time whether the slaves or the weavers were worse off.


I am new at this board. I love it!
I agree with this reminder. And would like to add that as far as England is concerned one should not forget the Empire!
