I have Almacks coming up in a story, so have scanned for bits of info. I don't know that I have much to add on the subject other than the impression I had was that your entrance depended upon the favor of one of the Patronesses and it really didn't matter if you were aristocracy or not--just favored. Men did have to wear breeches and white cravats no matter who they were even though trousers were gaining in fashion. Vouchers/invitations were given given ahead of time. ANd there was some sort of list that came out that every one waited breathlessly to see if they were named to attend.
I'd be interested in your sources, too. If I come across more, I'll let ya know.
