Women at sea

] Some time ago there were posts here asking about women going to sea with their husbands.
I'm not totally certain on this, but I THINK that wives of some high-ranking Royal Navy officers were also allowed to go to sea with their husbands. I also seem to remember reading somewhere that during a sea battle, women and children were usually sent below to the lowest hold of the ship. This was a safe location, but one that would also be difficult to get out of if the ship sank!
