Almack's & The Season

I have been reading about Almack's & that one must be approved to gain entrance as either a subscriber or a guest of one, and that it was in the hands of the Patronesses. Would any of the JA characters have been admitted, do you think? When one talks of The Season, would the untitled landowner (ie. Darcy, Knightley) have hobnobbed with the aristocracy or did they run in different circles? Would someone with 1/2 his income (ie. Bingley) have been good enough or could he have ridden in on Darcy's coattails? Thanks for any enlightenment.
