Comparison of the American South and England

To L and T indexHas anyone ever considered the similarities of the American South and England. Both had aristocratic-ruled societys, and the words 'in trade' had a bad connotation. In both societys, daughters were urged to marry of money and a good name, not for love, and genealogies were traced to see if you came from a 'good family' or were of 'good birth'. Can you think of other similartites?
