] Another thing I have noticed in the various BBC productions of late are the snow scenes. I don't mean to quibble but I thought northern hemisphere plants lost their leaves in Winter?

Actually, it depends on the type of tree, and location.... where I live in Oregon, the forests are mostly evergreens, so they stay green all winter, even in the mountains, where it's snowy. Most broadleaf plants do loose their leaves in winter, but not all of them....

Also, on the subject of winter filming, I think I once saw a program on the making of the most recent version of "Little Women," much of which takes place in a New England winter. The entire movie was shot in and around Vancouver, BC in the summer... ALL the snow was "faked..."
