To L and T index ] I know that Jane Austen's works were published anonymously during her lifetime, but were they published as written by 'anonymous' or did she have a pen name?

S&S was published as written by "A Lady", P&P by "A Lady, author of S&S" and all the other ones by "Jane Austen." By the time "Emma" came out, she was sufficiently well known for the Regent to want her to dedicate her next book to him, and for her to meet Dr Clarke at Carlton House.
