] Help! I need to know whether traveling coaches were equipped with springs within the seats or were the cushions simply packed with horsehair or other material?]
From what I have read, springs came along in Victorian times and the early nineteenth century was still stuffing cushions with horsehair, and a multitude of other fabrics, including feathers. This included household furniture. The overstuffed look is Victorian too.
