] In P&P2, is the type of cap Lady Catherine wears a widow's cap? I know that during the Victorian era, women could show their marital status with the type of cap they wore. Was this the same during the Regency? I notice that Charlotte Lucas wears a small cap at home and under outdoor bonnets after her marriage to Mr. Collins. Would Lizzy wear one after she became Mrs. Darcy?
I think Lady C's caps prove she can afford a lot of lace and not much more than that. Charlotte's are pretty horrible I grant you and I don't like the idea of Elizabeth in them but take heart they were not all frumpy - the costume designers for Persuasion gave Mary some little delicate ones that at least had the advantage of being made from fine pretty lace - perhaps Lizzy would had similar ones.
