I think Linden's and John's posts explain the "why" better than I could.
John is correct that my site is more concerned with "how" than "why,"
although "why" often goes a long way towards making "how" make sense
(does that make sense?
). I don't have very much on my page about
knighthoods and baronets, though (a baronet is, for all practical purposes,
an hereditary knighthood), beyond how to address them.
Thanks for the reference to my site, Constanza! Authors are beginning to
discover it, and while I think it needs a visual overhaul, I hope it
becomes a noteworthy site. I get several pieces of email a week in
response to it, most of them thoughtful comments with good questions
(many of which I can't answer!).
