Have you read "Flashman"?

Until then, you may like to read the "Flashman" series by Geroge Macdonald Fraser (I'm not sure of the spelling). It's the disreputable adventures of Flashman, the bullying schoolboy in "Tom Brown's Schooldays", as he fornicates and flees his way around most of the battles and scandals of the British Empire in the 19th century.

I hadn't thought of it before, but Flashman was undoubtedly a close realtion, in a younger generation, of Wickham.
