But this board deals with the Directoire/Empire/Regency period, which was probably just about the least corseted era in western fashion between the 16th century and the 1920's -- the "stays" that the typical genteel Englishwoman would have worn were not at all similar to the stereotypical image of an 1890's Victorian corset or whatever.
