My apologies then because you've been here longer than me! %-PDon't be too shy about posting because when you take your Gothic novel course you can come and enlighten us!! I'd be interested to know what you end up reading and what approach your prof takes to the Gothic genre.
I tried to read the Gothics because of Northanger Abbey but my experience with Mysteries of Udolpho made me think that this popular activity was something that lost something in the transition between the 1790s and the 1990s. However, I did actually start browsing the opening of Walpole's Castle of Otranto last night which seems much more readable than Mrs. Radcliffe's rather lengthy Udolpho.
