In response to Second Sons, written by John W on June 08, 1998 at 16:38:12
I was thinking of my own story in which the main characters are French and so the second son is noble also. I forgot to mention that in England only first born sons are noble. I still think, though, that while a family may not forbid a son to become a physician, they would prefer he choose something else unless he was very sucessful. I mean if the son catered to the rich and became a wealthy physician would that not be more accepted than if he went about tending the poor?
