] I beleive Col Brandon is said to play the pianoforte, and so becomes the only male musician I have come across among Austen's gentlemen.
I just searched the novel on-line, and can find no reference to Col. Brandon's musical abilities, except that he alone was not in raptures over Marianne's singing, towards the beginning of the novel. I think that was only Emma Thompson's imagination, or a further embellishment to Col. Brandon's sketchily drawn character.
