How about a snake?

Am I right in remembering that you're working on fan fic? If your characters must be harassed by nature's dangers, how about a snake or two?
I was just watching a show about snakes on Discovery Channel this evening, and I'm pretty sure they said there was a type of poisonous snake in England, but only one (compared to all the ones in the US). I want to say "adder" but I can't swear to that. I'm sure someone else here must know. (Perhaps a Black Adder? ; ) Of course, the narrator also said it was not particularly aggressive.
