To L and T index1. A Gray is considered to be a fine horse.

2. Caroline ] As far as I know, there wasn't an elegance scale for horse colour- it was simply a matter of making sure that the horses matched.

Matching horses were a priority and also using the right horse for the right purpose (as there was a horse for every occassion - workwise, that is) There were, however, at least a few carriages which required a particular colored horse (fashionably) and breed (I think). I cannot recall which ones exactly though I believe one was for a gentleman (perhaps the Phaeton?) and one was a little one for a lady (pony cart?). That is as clear as I can go at the moment.
