] ] YES! But I will restrain myself and only ask if you can recommend a good, fairly readable, not too technical book about weather patterns. It's wanted for my next novel!!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.]
Hey gkay, are we all writing novels? ; )
Caroline, I too would be interested in any readable books that explain how weather works in relation to geography, not necessarily for a specific location, but for things like how weather tends to be in various regions (rainfall, temperature, severeness of winters & summers in relation to altitude, terrain, etc. -Eek! I'm suddenly flashing back to middle school geography class in Sri Lanka where we had to draw diagrams showing how monsoons form! ACK!)
Your description of equable climates also now explains to me the comment of my friend who moved to Seattle from Virginia, and while visiting me back home in Va. insisted we turn out all the lights in the house and watch a big thunderstorm because she missed seeing them out in drizzle-land.
Thanks for shedding some light on Mrs. T. (I'm not a lady! ; ) I do find it troublesome when she's writing for a British audience and I have to guess what the norms are that she assumes her readers share with her when describing those wacky Americans. Have come across some amusing anecdotes about American prudishness which I will try to post in future, if only because her reaction says something about the English standards (I presume).
