To L and T index ] Coming of Age was at 21 years.

It was the age when one was legally an adult, and could sign documents on one's own behalf, get sued for them, etc. Before that age, one's guardian had to approve.

*Irrelevant anecdote warning*

Along with about 3 million other people, I was between the ages of 18 and 21 in UK when the age was reduced from 21 to 18, so we all came of age at the same time. I remember quite a bit of a rather good coming-of-age party.
