Your posting on Mrs. Leigh-Perrot's trial was, for me, very timely. I am reading _Jane Austen Obstinate Heart_ by Valerie Grosvenor Myer and had just finished the chapter where she discusses these bizarre events. Myer, in her book, implies that Mrs. Leigh Perrot may indeed have been guilty and even quotes a relation to the family as later admitting that "the lady had an invincible propensity to stealing."
