I know that women drank wine at supper from the descriptions in JA's books and in the movies. I know the men would retreat for some time after or before dinner to the host's study or appropriate room to smoke, drink, and talk. The women would go to the drawing room and discuss or sew, and then at some time they would join together and the entertainment would begin. My question is, was it socially exceptable for a woman in the Regency to drink alcohol at another time besides meals? What I'm saying is......Could they be sitting at home sewing, drawing, reading, or playing the pianoforte and compliment the moment with wine, or hard liquor when there was no one there besides the people who resided in the household?
