] In P&P2, gentlemen doesn't wear gloves and ladies sometimes do es and sometimes doesn't. For instance, at the assemblies ball, Jane and Lizzy are wearing them, but not Lydia or Kitty. Which were the critieria followed?
To attempt to answer the second bit, Kitty and Lydia might have not been wearing them on account of their younger age. I do remember a bit in Georgette Heyer where a girl going to her first proper 'adult' party gets her first pair of long evening gloves, and says up till now she had only had mittens (little girl's gloves, presumably short ones like we would mostly wear today rather than ones without separate fingers). If this is correct then K & L should have had these on, at least.
