I was just kidding, Marie-Bernadette. But I'm sure you knew that.
Anyway, I would like to know myself, whether he really did these things or not. But I've never been able to find any of these studies, only exerpts from a book here or there (such as the chocolate one and the front matter of his writings.) There must have been some level of debachery, I'm sure. But I would think it would be difficult to judge a man of that age based on our own mores. Especially given that there were so many Frenchman like that! He must have some company even worse. I suppose I can call myself a supporter, even having read much of his work. (The latter stuff was so bad that I couldn't put it down. I think I read it half in shock, half-possessed! I returned them to the bookstore, all red with embarrassment. I could not give them to the clerk without making up some lame excuse like, my husband bought them and didn't realize what it was!)
