Have you looked at the Regency Links at the top of this page? There are some great pictures of dresses and good advice on fabrics. I've spent hours reading and looking at them.

I recently bought the La Mode Bagatelle pattern and just finished making the slip. It really does make the biggest difference in how authentic the dress will look. It is actually really easy and pretty inexpensive to make one from the McCalls pattern you already have. It won't be authentic, but it will give you the right profile. If you want to know more about it, let me know.

I, too, always like this style of dress. I remember making dozens of empire waist dresses as a teenager. They were in style and girls didn't have the option of wearing pants then.
