] But I've got a sneaky feeling that Oscar Wilde may have invented "camp": all that adoration of lilies and so on.

By coincidence, a few days after posting the original message, I read a review of the film "Wilde" that said that Oscar did invent camp.

BTW: what a lovely man Oscar was: how much a better person than his self-righteous persecutors.
