I have been reading parts of Dorothy Wordsworth's journals (especially the Grasmere/Lake District parts), and I have a question.

At one point there is mention of weekly laundry, then a great wash which occurs periodically (when a washerwoman might be hired): sometimes monthly, or every 5 or 7 weeks. What would be washed weekly and what would be washed only in the great wash? Would bed linens wait for the latter? Would all clothes be washed weekly, or just underclothing?

Anybody have any answers or references?
