] Also, it states that "water in bowls was available so that mouths could be rinsed, or hands washed, as fingers were probably used as frequently as forks." For this reason, I doubt if gloves were worn into supper.

If I am not too late with this reply - I only joined last week ref your point about gloves - as Gloves were usually buttoned at the wrist they could be folded back during a meal.
