Thank you for asking this quesiton!!! Having been writing "Frederick's Story", I've been wondering this myself.
If Captain W. took Anne on board his ship (as his brother-in-law took Sophy), was this a common practice? My main curiosity lies with bathing. I know they were in port often but how much fresh water could they lug on board for washing up.
I can imagine a ship full of, ahem, aromatic sailor would put anybody's olfactory nodes in distress.
Anybody have any ideas?
